Proverbs 31 Wife – 31 Days of Praying for our Children

11
FAItHFulness:

“Let love and faithfulness
never leave my children,
but bind these twin virtues
around their necks and write
them on the tablet of their
hearts” (Proverbs 3:3)

Other translations say “mercy and truth” in place of “love and faithfulness” – so, let me define the phrases even more (I like to understand what I’m really praying over my kiddos).

Mercy & Christ-Centered Love – shutting out all forms of selfishness and hate. I have recently been working hard on this selfishness thing with the girls. So many times, I will ask, “who had the toy first?”, but does it really matter if Evylee or Kenzlee had the toy first? Do I really want them dashing for the toy simply in an effort to get it before the other? No, I need to be concerned about the motives of their hearts, so I have been trying to talk with them during these moments about being kind and loving with a desire to share, and amazingly, it has worked quite a few times! One of the girls will tell the other that she can have the toy and this is definitely one of those times that I give lots of praise in return!

Mercy:

“May my children
always ‘be merciful,
as [their] Father is
merciful’”
(Luke 6:36)

May our children be COMPASSIONATE. May we be COMPASSIONATE because they will learn from us. Be reminded that our children learn from us . . . that scares me a bit – I’m going to need to pray really, really hard with great faith!!!

Enjoy this oldie, but a goodie as a reminder that our children watch us daily. I remember a very special guy, Todd Belt, singing this at Woodlawn one year for Father’s Day – I know that this was truly the prayer of his heart, and I pray that I will be reminded to live a life that teaches my kiddos to be merciful and compassionate. Todd actually invested these Christian values into my life when I was just a child in children’s church. What a blessing to have people like Todd in my children’s’ lives today, too!

love For
God’s word:

“May my children grow
to find your Word more
precious than gold, than
much pure gold, and
sweeter than honey from the
honeycomb” (Psalm 19:10)

So, how cool would it be for our children to choose God’s Word over a TV Show, how cool would it be for our children to desire more of God instead of more toys, clothes and entertainment? How cool would it be for us as adults to desire God & His Word above materialism, above keeping up with the friends, above the best Christmas gifts for our kids? Wow! I truly pray that Evylee, Kenzlee & Nate will have a love for God’s Word at an early age that will ignite and burn for their lifetime.

When I really chew on the grace that we have been given by our Savior who put us ABOVE ALL by dying on the cross, it burns in me a desire to put Him above all. Our Savior was persecuted, nailed to a cross and humiliated – He is ‘more precious than gold . . . and sweeter than honey’. Let us live lives that create a burning desire in our hearts to know Him more and light a fire in our children to know Him deeper each day.

I urge you to watch this video, worship and share it.

05 selF-control:

“Father, help my children
not to be like many others
around them, but let them
be alert and self-controlled
in all they do”
(1 Thessalonians 5:6)

This prayer goes along with my daily prayer that I shared with you on February 21st. And, while I pray that my children will be Godly leaders within their sphere of influence, my prayer for their sphere of friends is so important, as well. I mentioned the sphere of friends that helped me to be ‘alert and self-controlled’ in my post about “God’s Faithfulness” – the people that our children surround themselves with will be a major factor in their willingness to be steadfast in the Word of God.

Honesty And
InteGrIty:

“May integrity and honesty
be their virtue and their
protection” (Psalm 25:21)

My best friend’s little boy is so funny – he has immediate honesty in all situations! I long for my children to be like Will even as they grow into adulthood. Will is never slow to admit he has done wrong. Wow, what a great lesson for us adults – to admit we are wrong without hesitation, this is a tough one for me and my ego, so I see another combo prayer for me and my kids kind of day.

03 love:

“Grant, lord, that my children may learn
to ‘live a life of love,’ through the spirit who dwells in them”
(ephesians 5:2; Galatians 5:22)

Living a life activated by loving-kindness in the keeping of God’s commandments, following the example of Jesus Christ, and being tenderhearted to forgive is a sweet-smelling sacrifice to God. I pray that my children will love others despite their differences. And, while I know that my children will not be “friends” with every peer, my prayer is that they are kind to all as they share the love of Christ.

Proverbs 31 Wife – 31 Days of Praying for our Children

I meant to post this morning to challenge all you moms out there to pray daily for your children. I know lots of us already do, but as a reminder, let’s make March a special month of praying for our kiddos. Thanks Katrina for reminding me that I meant to do this by starting the challenge ahead of me!

Day 01
sAlvAtIon:

“Lord, let salvation spring
up within my children,
that they may obtain the
salvation that is in Christ
Jesus, with eternal glory”
(2 Timothy 2:10).

My best friend also adds in praying for her son to receive Christ at a young age. I have begun to pray this with my kiddos, as well! I look forward to the day that my children know Jesus as their personal Savior.
